From the "Duh" section of the news today...
A KPMG International study proclaims that Seattle has a higher tax burden for businesses than most any other very large U.S. city.
From the story:
"Among 21 large U.S. cities — defined as having populations of more than 2 million — Seattle ranked No. 18...The tax index for Seattle is 107.1, meaning the city has tax costs 7.1 percent above the U.S. average...Only the cities of San Diego, New York and San Jose, Calif., had higher tax indexes than Seattle among the 21 largest U.S. cities."
WPC researcher Jason Mercier hit upon Seattle's seemingly endless need for tax increases and levy renewals, and the Seattle Times continues to be concerned with the growing tax burden for citizens of the Emerald City. And now Seattle citizens get to pay a $0.20 per grocery bag "fee" starting in January. So, you know, we got that going for us.
